DHAKA: The High Court on Tuesday summoned communications secretary MAN Siddique and two other high officials to appear before it on February 16 for violating its earlier order relating to a contempt rule.

The others summoned are chief engineer Md Amanur Rashid Loshker and superintendent engineer Mohammad Faridul Alam of the Roads and Highways Department.

Upon a contempt petition filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB), the HC bench, comprising Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury and Justice Jahangir Hossain, also issued a rule to explain why the contempt of court proceedings should not be drawn against them for not complying with its earlier order.

On March 10 last year, the HC directed the authorities concerned to return to the SC the 7.9 acres of land which was under occupation of the Children Park near Shahbagh, within 19 days of getting the copies of HC order.

Later, the SC on July 28 also upheld the HC order.

Despite the apex court order, the authorities are yet to comply with order resulting in the contempt rule issued against the three officials.
