06:37 < conseo> jonas_liljegren: has something come out of the discussion? the google groups is not publicly readable
06:37 < conseo> group
07:14 < jonas_liljegren> But the E2D list is
07:14 < jonas_liljegren> … not
07:14 < jonas_liljegren> … you have to be a member
07:15 < jonas_liljegren> I have set up a skype meeting for discussion about cooperation in development
07:15 < jonas_liljegren> but the main discussion seems to be in the email list and some on the e2d forum
07:16 < jonas_liljegren> https://groups.google.com/forum/?…!topic/e2d-international/z0bhK_0tmLU
07:17 < jonas_liljegren> Skype meeting TUESDEAY 2012–02–07 14:00 UTC about DD voting software
07:17 < jonas_liljegren> My skype name is jonas_liljegren
07:37 < jonas_liljegren> conseo: ping
07:37 < conseo> jonas_liljegren: re
07:38 < conseo> not sure if i can make it on tuesday
07:38 < jonas_liljegren> More important is participating in the email or forum discussion
07:38 < jonas_liljegren> join the E2D email list
07:39 < conseo> jonas_liljegren: i am already on 5 or 6 lists already and i barely can read them
07:39 < conseo> (not to speak of participating in the discussion)
07:39 < jonas_liljegren> same here…
07:39 < jonas_liljegren> But maby 50–60…
07:39 < conseo> jonas_liljegren: since you know what we do a bit, it would be helpful if you could point me to concrete cooperation efforts which match our concepts
07:40 < jonas_liljegren> I was recently about to list the mentioned projects
07:40 < conseo> yes, but i want to work on the code after all, because almost all i see happening is loads of talk and little efforts to really work on the solutions (code, concepts, etc.)
07:41 < jonas_liljegren> There are a lot of projects with code…
07:41 < conseo> it is very difficult to seperate the talkers from people who are putting real work into this
07:41 < jonas_liljegren> The issue is to try to consolidate the efforts
07:41 < conseo> yes, but they don't work on the concepts
07:41 < jonas_liljegren> but that also meens listing what it should do
07:42 < conseo> jonas_liljegren: you know about the ovn, so we don't need to talk about possible cooperations, we already know how this will basically look like for usw
07:43 < conseo> if something in this direction happens (data mirroring/sharing) i am interested
07:43 < conseo> but if nobody knows what to cooperate on, then i have to focus my time. i have exams too atm.
07:44 < conseo> jonas_liljegren: maybe we can understand each others cooperation concepts to a point where we can help each other to point possible cooperation partners out?
07:45 < jonas_liljegren> Is it even possible to get half of the projects to forget their code and switch language and join a new project?
07:45 < conseo> if they are tech guys driven, probably now
07:45 < conseo> no
07:46 < conseo> we need to talk about concepts and this needs a bit more social insights/sharing of social theory and perspective than chosing a web-framework
07:46 < conseo> i feel that on metagov already, cooperation is unlikely to happen, but here mostly because the concepts collide.
07:47 < conseo> but cooperation is imo more important to this than we imagine
07:48 < conseo> since cooperation is our overall goal, we might have to adjust our means to it
07:48 < jonas_liljegren> question: how do you make sure that a person doesnt vote twice …?
07:48 < conseo> but then, if you think anonymity is the main factor of voting, then cooperation is already very hard
07:49 < conseo> we have a trust network which uses local user driven processes to verify identities without exposing them
07:49 < jonas_liljegren> again: its not my thinking. Anonymity is important.
07:49 < conseo> think of going to your church to get identity information
07:49 < conseo> (i am an atheist, but it might prove valuable for many people and avoids governments)
07:49 < jonas_liljegren> But if a user registers himself on several different servers?
07:50 < conseo> then he can map the accounts
07:50 < jonas_liljegren> But if his intention is to get more votes
07:50 < conseo> the register is global, if you create sock puppets they will be visible in the registry
07:51 < conseo> jonas_liljegren: this is not so important for a simple reason
07:51 < conseo> jonas_liljegren: if you put in economic resources and labour (in the process), then you can see who is real and who is not
07:52 < conseo> what i am trying to say is that if the process works and people do come together than they will easily figure out real people
07:52 < conseo> if you only want to vote on laws or constitutions or do a national poll, things are different
07:52 < conseo> but then we don't even now if this is the best way of democratic organisation, or if we have to decentralize many issues and centralize others
07:53 < conseo> our problem is that we don't attract users
07:53 < conseo> and the only real attraction we have to offer is to bring them together in new ways
07:54 < conseo> jonas_liljegren: i like anonymity and use it whereever it fits, but i wouldn't like to anon forcefully, by tool/authority decision
07:54 < conseo> i also think that anonymity is based on trust and a trust network is a very smart way to model that without a central authority
07:55 < conseo> jonas_liljegren: sorry don't want to spam you, but this is important to me and i would like to cooperate. but we need to find a point where we can really do so in the interest of our users
07:56 < conseo> this might be enough. even the sign of projects cooperating in a meaningful way can pull in others and build critical mass. that is why i think the ovn is so important (in general mirroring each others data).
07:56 < jonas_liljegren> I'll crosspost some of the discussions to metagov
07:57 < conseo> ok
07:57 < conseo> cool!
07:57 < conseo> thx
07:57 < conseo> jonas_liljegren: i can give you a permanent irc account if you need one
07:58 < jonas_liljegren> this is permanent
07:58 < conseo> i mean always online and you fetch the logs when you connect to the server
07:58 < jonas_liljegren> or do you mean with permanent onllineness
07:58 < conseo> the client is called quassel
07:58 < conseo> i have the server component running
07:58 < jonas_liljegren> I'm using Pidgin
07:59 < conseo> pidgin is a fine peace of software
07:59 < conseo> you can also do this with screen and irssi if you have a ssh account somewhere
07:59 < conseo> piece :-)
07:59 < jonas_liljegren> I know. Just hasen't bothered with it
07:59 < conseo> ok
08:00 < conseo> just an offer, because i miss you often and then i can't reply you
08:00 < jonas_liljegren> Looking for a better chat for embedding on websites
08:00 < conseo> irc can be embedded in websites
08:00 < jonas_liljegren> Thinking of using jabber as a server that you can connetc to with IRC or other tools
08:01 < jonas_liljegren> … The IRC is to messy for unexperienced users
08:01 < jonas_liljegren> And I have almost no use at all of the channels here for Aktiv Demokrati
08:02 < conseo> ok
08:03 < jonas_liljegren> using a freenode IRC web client now. But its not working…
08:03 < conseo> yeah, this here is a bit tech oriented, but jabber won't give you more users automatically. irc can be really easy: http://webchat.freenode.net/
08:03 < conseo> :-)
08:03 < jonas_liljegren> http://aktivdemokrati.se/chatt/
08:03 < conseo> jonas_liljegren: do you use foss?
08:03 < jonas_liljegren> Thats what Im using
08:03 < jonas_liljegren> of course…
08:04 < jonas_liljegren> Just saying: It does techincally work
08:04 < jonas_liljegren> But its useless since its not easy
08:04 < jonas_liljegren> The captcha is totaly unacceptable
08:04 < jonas_liljegren> Many users does not have a clue about what it is
08:04 < conseo> a channel checkbox-selector would be helpful
08:05 < jonas_liljegren> The same with all the other fields…
08:05 < conseo> captchas are in wide use, aren't they?
08:05 < jonas_liljegren> Doesn't matter
08:05 < jonas_liljegren> The people that are and will be using Aktiv Demokrat is not computer people
08:06 < jonas_liljegren> Many of them might not know what an icon is or what double click means
08:06 < jonas_liljegren> For example: if a normal user actually finds the chat…
08:06 < jonas_liljegren> They will soon dissappear since they will click on a link and go to another page
08:07 < jonas_liljegren> What is needed is a chat similar to that on Facebook
08:07 < jonas_liljegren> that will show all users logged in on the site, by Wordpress or Facebook login.
08:07 < jonas_liljegren> And it will be availible on all pages
08:07 < jonas_liljegren> and it must not have anything with hashtags or any server messages or anything like that
08:08 < jonas_liljegren> And … one way to do it is by Jabber. Thats the protocol used by Google Talk and Facebook and others.
08:08 < jonas_liljegren> And its possible to provide an IRC interface to it.
08:09 < jonas_liljegren> You could go the other way around and provide a jabber interface to an IRC server, but thats bad. Since you will already have scrollback of the chat previous to your login with XMPP
08:09 < conseo> i know, i run a ejabberd server for a few years to handle my own accounts
08:10 < conseo> but jabber is not for conferences, it is rather a personal chat, while irc is mostly focused on group chat
08:10 < conseo> technically both is possible, but most jabber apps are really bad at conferencing
08:13 < jonas_liljegren> I'm looking for a web client, as stated, that will give access to group and individual chats in FB style, at the bottom of each page on the site
08:14 < jonas_liljegren> So it would include javascript library and maby some server components
08:15 < conseo> does fb have solid group chat? i only know that web-contact list
08:31 < jonas_liljegren> Im pretty sure it uses XMPP backend… Theres even an FB plugin to Pidgin
08:31 < jonas_liljegren> I haven't any problems with it.
08:32 < jonas_liljegren> Except maby some of the same issues that I also have with other Jabber clients
08:32 < jonas_liljegren> That is: I can't get the right amout of activity notifications
08:32 < jonas_liljegren> either it's no notifications at all or I get notifications on every line of chat
08:33 < jonas_liljegren> It should be configurable per chatroom and maby have som funtion for a temporary silencing
08:33 < jonas_liljegren> There are similar web chats you can use as a plugin for websites.
08:38 < jonas_liljegren> cant find an example of it now
08:43 < conseo> ok
08:43 < conseo> would be nice to have a foss plugin for similiar functionality
10:42 < jonas_liljegren> Just sent the compilation to the metagov list now
10:43 < jonas_liljegren> It might have to be manualle accepted by a listadmin
12:02 < jonas_liljegren> Hi
12:02 < jonas_liljegren> do you know who is the administrator for start@metagovernment.org?
12:03 < jonas_liljegren> oh… seems that my email did get through to both E2D-I and Metagov.
13:34 < conseo> jonas_liljegren: ok, thanks
